HIDTA stands for High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and is a program that concentrates resources on major drug trafficking areas in the United States. HIDTA operations normally involve federal support of local police operations that are involved in drug enforcement:

In addition to the normal UHF channels the DEA uses, there have been some reports of VHF activity that may be DEA. In South Florida, 164.5500, 156.7 PL has long be identified as a DEA Interop repeater with other agencies.

These have been heard in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area:
163.2000, N156 - Possible input to 172.7250 MHz
165.8875, N156 - Reported weak in the Houston area
170.5875, N156 - Heard in the Phoenix, AZ area
171.5875, N283 - Heard in the Houston, TX area, used by DEA air assets ("FLINT") calling "FLINT Base". Frequency possibly called "AIR" channel - also note the unusual NAC.
